Dubai, Sep 4: Smriti Mandhana produced a sensational record-breaking innings as India stormed into the semifinals of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup with a massive 137-run victory over Hong Kong here.

Batting first, India posted an imposing 193 for five in their allotted 20 overs, with Mandhana leading the charge with a breathtaking 124 off just 64 balls. Her explosive knock earned her the Player of the Match award and further strengthened her status as one of the leading batters in women’s international cricket.

Mandhana’s innings also saw her surpass Mithali Raj to become the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket. She also registered a new record for the most international centuries by a female batter, adding another milestone to an already remarkable career.

Chasing 194, Hong Kong struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack and were bowled out for just 56 in 16.2 overs, handing India a comprehensive 137-run victory.

Deepti Sharma was the pick of the Indian bowlers, claiming three wickets, while Prema Rawat, Shree Charani and Nandini Sharma contributed with two wickets each.

The dominant performance saw India secure their place in the semifinals with considerable momentum. The team’s commanding batting display, followed by an equally effective bowling effort, left Hong Kong with little opportunity to mount a challenge.

For Mandhana, the match was particularly memorable as her century not only powered India’s huge total but also helped her break major records in women’s international cricket.

India will now turn their attention to their next group-stage fixture against Afghanistan on September 13. The team will look to maintain its winning momentum as the tournament moves towards its decisive stages.

The emphatic victory over Hong Kong has provided India with a strong platform heading into the knockout phase, while Mandhana’s record-breaking performance has emerged as one of the standout moments of the tournament so far.
