Mumbai, Jan 25 : Google has officially begun rolling out the first beta version of Android 16 for compatible Pixel devices. The release follows several developer previews and introduces several significant new features, with a focus on enhancing the user experience, particularly on large-screen devices like tablets and foldables.
Among the notable changes is the introduction of Android Adaptive Apps, which phases out the ability for apps to restrict screen orientation and resizability on large screens. This update allows users to run apps at any window size and aspect ratio, enhancing functionality for users of foldable and tablet devices.
Another key feature in Android 16 Beta 1 is the addition of “Live Updates” notifications, enabling users to track ongoing activities such as food deliveries, ride completions, and more. The release also adds support for the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec, which is designed for high-quality video recording and post-production, offering lossless video quality and support for HDR10/10+ and up to 8K resolution content.
Additionally, the new beta introduces an API for third-party camera apps to detect and switch between regular and night mode, improving photo quality in low-light conditions. The update also brings system-wide UI enhancements, including new system icons, as well as bug fixes and performance improvements.
Several features from the Android 16 Developer Previews are also included in the beta, such as Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) audio sharing, screen-off fingerprint access, and new Health Connect features, further enhancing the platform’s overall functionality.
