Colombo, Jan 10: The second Twenty20 International between Pakistan and Sri Lanka was abandoned without play after persistent rain rendered conditions unfit at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Friday.
Uninterrupted showers throughout the evening delayed the toss indefinitely, with officials eventually calling off the match as the outfield remained heavily waterlogged. Despite repeated inspections and sustained efforts by the ground staff, worsening weather made any possibility of play unsafe.
The abandonment means Pakistan maintain a 1–0 lead in the three-match T20I series, following their six-wicket victory in the opening encounter earlier this week at the same venue. The washout denied both sides an opportunity to build momentum, particularly Sri Lanka, who were seeking to level the series.
Weather-related interruptions have been a recurring challenge during the tour, affecting scheduling and preparations for both teams. Attention now shifts to the third and final T20I on Sunday, which will serve as the series decider, provided conditions allow for a full contest.
