Kolkata, Dec 27: West Bengal is set to experience continued cold weather over the next few days, with no significant change in minimum temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
Darjeeling emerged as the coldest place in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 5.8 degrees Celsius. In the plains, Alipurduar in north Bengal was the coldest, with the mercury dipping to 8 degrees Celsius, IMD officials said.
Several other locations also reported minimum temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. Kalimpong recorded 9.5 degrees Celsius, Sriniketan 9.7 degrees Celsius and Bankura 9.9 degrees Celsius.
The state capital Kolkata logged a minimum temperature of 12.8 degrees Celsius. The IMD has forecast shallow fog during the morning hours in the city on Sunday.
According to the weather office, minimum temperatures in north Bengal districts are likely to remain largely unchanged over the next one week. In south Bengal, temperatures are expected to stay nearly the same for the next four days, before rising gradually by two to three degrees Celsius over the following three days.
The IMD also predicted shallow to moderate fog during the morning hours in south Bengal for the next two days and in north Bengal for the next five days.
Dry weather is expected to prevail across West Bengal for the next one week, the IMD added.
