Raipur, Dec 27: Cases of cyber fraud linked to RTO e-challans are on the rise in Chhattisgarh, prompting the Transport Department to issue a public advisory urging citizens to make payments only through the official portal.
According to the department, fraudsters are creating fake websites resembling the official RTO portal and sending threatening messages to people on their mobile phones in the name of pending e-challans. These messages often contain suspicious links or APK files. Once clicked or installed, the fraudsters gain access to personal data and siphon off money from bank accounts.
The Transport Department clarified that authentic e-challan details and payments are available only on the official website, echallan.parivahan.gov.in. After opening the website, users must select the “Pay Online” option, enter the challan number and captcha, and verify the transaction through an OTP sent to the registered mobile number. Only then can the complete challan details be viewed and payment made securely.
The department further stated that any e-challan issued by the traffic police or the Transport Department is communicated only through the official portal to the registered mobile number. Information sent from private mobile numbers, third-party links, or unofficial apps is likely to be fraudulent.
Citizens have been advised not to make online payments to unknown sources, to exercise caution in banking transactions, and to immediately report any suspicious calls, messages, or apps to the nearest police station or cyber cell.
