Kolkata, Mar 20: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released its second list of 111 candidates for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, taking the total number of घोषित nominees to 255.
Among prominent candidates, former Union Minister Nisith Pramanik has been fielded from Mathabhanga, while actor-turned-politician Roopa Ganguly will contest from Sonarpur Dakshin. Former Indian hockey player Bharat Chhetri has been nominated from Kalimpong, and Noman Rai from Darjeeling.
Other notable names in the list include Dibyendu Adhikari from Egra, Priyanka Tibrewal from Entally, Tapas Roy from Maniktala, and Sudip Kumar Mukherjee from Purulia. The list also includes around 19 women candidates, reflecting the party’s focus on women’s representation.
The party has also made minor revisions to its earlier list, fielding Viswajit Khan from Bishnupur and Biswajit Mahato from Joypur.
The 294-member West Bengal Assembly will go to polls in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4.
In its first list, the BJP had fielded senior leader Suvendu Adhikari from both Bhabanipur and Nandigram. He is set to take on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur, setting the stage for a high-profile contest.
“BJP today released the second list of 111 candidates for the upcoming West Bengal assembly polls,” the party said, adding that key leaders have been strategically fielded across constituencies.
