New Delhi, Sept 25: Former India wicketkeeper-batter Vijay Dahiya has been appointed head coach of the Delhi men’s senior cricket team for the 2026-27 domestic season, replacing Sarandeep Singh.The 53-year-old Dahiya represented India in two Tests and 19 ODIs before retiring from professional cricket in 2006.
He has subsequently taken up several coaching assignments, including previous stints with the Delhi team.Dahiya’s first tenure as Delhi coach remains his most notable association with the side, as the team won the Ranji Trophy during the 2007-08 season under his guidance.Delhi have seven Ranji Trophy titles but have struggled to match their earlier success in recent seasons.
Their best result since the 2007-08 triumph came in the 2017-18 season, when they finished runners-up.Dahiya will be assisted by former pacers Parvinder Awana and Sanjeev Sharma, who have been appointed bowling coaches.
Kshitiz Sharma and Kuldeep Rawat will serve as assistant coaches.Former cricketer and coach Rajkumar Sharma, known for mentoring Virat Kohli during his early years, has been named the team’s mentor for the upcoming campaign.
The Delhi selection committee will be headed by K.P. Bhaskar, with Manu Nayar and Praveen Gupta completing the three-member panel.Delhi will open its Ranji Trophy campaign against Bengal in a Group C fixture on October 11.
The new coaching setup will look to build a competitive squad and improve Delhi’s performance during the upcoming domestic season.
