New Delhi, Sept 25: The Delhi Transport Department’s road safety campaign focusing on helmet use has received a ‘Special Mention’ in the short-video category at the World Safety 2026 conference in Cape Town, South Africa, according to the department.
The campaign, titled “Consequences of Wearing a Helmet”, aims to encourage two-wheeler riders and pillion passengers to wear helmets and use them correctly.The initiative was launched in Delhi in August 2025 by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in the presence of Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh and other officials.
Through a series of short videos, the campaign sought to highlight the risks associated with riding without a helmet or using one improperly. It also emphasised that helmet use is an important road-safety measure rather than merely a way to comply with traffic regulations.
The Transport Department said the campaign was designed to encourage behavioural changes among road users. It particularly sought to engage young people by encouraging them to adopt safe riding practices and motivate others to follow traffic rules.
The international recognition covered road-safety and accident-prevention communication initiatives from different parts of the world.
According to the department, an international jury of experts assessed the entries on parameters including presentation, clarity of communication, originality, creativity, evaluation methods and outcomes.The World Safety Conference provides a platform for organisations and professionals working in road safety and accident prevention to share awareness initiatives and approaches.
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the recognition would encourage continued efforts to promote responsible road behaviour. He said awareness campaigns highlighting the risks associated with unsafe riding could help motivate people to adopt safer practices.The Delhi government has said it will continue public-awareness initiatives aimed at improving road safety and reducing accidents in the national capital.
