Dhanbad, Aug 29: Three children, including two girls and a boy, died after drowning in a pond in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district, police and local residents said.The incident took place in Ranglitand village under the Topchanchi police station area.
The children had reportedly gone to a nearby pond to bathe when the tragedy occurred.According to preliminary information, one of the girls entered a deeper section of the pond and began struggling in the water. The two other children attempted to help her but also moved into deep water and were unable to return safely.
Local residents rushed to the spot after learning about the incident and began a search. After the children were recovered from the pond, they were taken to Shaheed Nirmal Mahato Medical College and Hospital in Dhanbad.
Doctors examined the children and declared all three dead, officials said.Family members said the children had visited the pond on previous occasions. The deaths of the three children have left their families devastated and caused widespread grief in the village.
Police from Topchanchi police station reached the site after receiving information about the incident and have begun an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the drowning.The incident has brought renewed attention to the dangers posed by deep and unprotected water bodies, particularly for children.
