Patna, Aug 4: Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday raised questions over the police investigation into the murder of Dalmianagar Municipal Council Executive Officer Vimal Kumar and alleged that the state government was attempting to shield an LJP (Ram Vilas) MLA named by the deceased officer’s family.
Vimal Kumar, who served as the Executive Officer of the Dalmianagar Municipal Council in Rohtas district, was allegedly beaten to death in Aurangabad district on the night of August 1 while travelling to his home in Patna. Police have arrested his driver, Mithilesh Kumar, in connection with the case.
Addressing reporters at his official residence in Patna, Yadav questioned the police’s decision to focus on the driver as the main accused before the post-mortem and forensic findings had been made public.He said the injuries sustained by the officer appeared serious and raised doubts about whether the crime could have been carried out by a single person. Yadav alleged that the possibility of the involvement of other individuals should be examined.
The RJD leader also referred to allegations made by Vimal Kumar’s wife, Babita Kumari, who claimed that an LJP (Ram Vilas) MLA had allegedly demanded money ranging from ₹25 lakh to ₹50 lakh from her husband.Yadav questioned why the police had not examined the case from this angle and why a named FIR had not been registered against the MLA. He alleged that the government and police were making efforts to protect the legislator.
The Leader of Opposition also criticised the reported police explanation that the driver was upset over workload and denial of leave. He said the alleged motive required a more detailed examination and should not be accepted without supporting evidence.Yadav further raised concerns regarding the alleged association between Magadh Range Inspector General Vikas Vaibhav and the MLA. He referred to their participation in public programmes and called for an independent examination of claims related to their association.
He also demanded a fair and transparent investigation into the case and sought a government job for the deceased officer’s wife.Meanwhile, Arti Kumari, the wife of the arrested driver, claimed that her husband had been wrongly implicated. She alleged that police had pressured and physically assaulted him to obtain a confession.According to her, Mithilesh Kumar maintained that he was innocent when she met him in jail.
The allegations made by the driver’s wife have not been independently verified.The police investigation is continuing, and the final findings are expected to depend on the post-mortem report, forensic evidence, witness statements and other material collected during the probe.
The allegations made by the deceased officer’s family and the political claims raised by Yadav remain subject to investigation and have not been established through judicial or official findings.
