Patna, Aug 4: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday demanded the registration of an FIR against LJP (Ram Vilas) MLA Sonu Singh in connection with the murder of Dehri-Dalmianagar Municipal Executive Officer (EO) Vimal Kumar.
Addressing a press conference, Yadav alleged that the state government and police were attempting to protect the legislator despite claims made by the slain officer’s family.
He accused the Bihar government of failing to maintain law and order and alleged that the investigation was not being conducted fairly.Yadav questioned the police’s decision to identify the victim’s driver as the sole accused before the forensic examination and post-mortem reports were made available.
He said the police theory that the alleged crime was linked to work-related pressure was difficult to accept. Referring to the explanation, Yadav remarked that if work pressure alone could be treated as a reason for such an attack, similar incidents could potentially occur against any senior public figure, including the Chief Minister.
The RJD leader also claimed that the nature of injuries found on Kumar’s body raised questions about whether more than one person may have been involved. He further alleged that the driver had changed his account on multiple occasions and said investigators should examine all aspects of the case independently.
According to Yadav, members of Kumar’s family had named the MLA and others while raising allegations related to pressure and demands for money.
He claimed that these allegations had not received adequate attention during the investigation.Yadav also alleged that the investigation was not being conducted in accordance with relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and called for a transparent and impartial inquiry.
Targeting Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Yadav said the government had failed to address concerns over the killing of a public official. He alleged irregularities in postings and transfers and claimed that the state’s law-and-order situation had deteriorated during the government’s tenure.
The Leader of Opposition also referred to other recent criminal cases, including the Bharat Tiwari encounter and the Bunty Yadav case, while questioning the government’s handling of law-and-order issues.Commenting on the Bankipur Assembly by-election, Yadav said his party accepted the verdict delivered by voters.
However, he claimed that the result reflected public dissatisfaction with the ruling BJP-led government.He further alleged that the BJP had faced electoral setbacks in both a Legislative Council election and an Assembly bypoll since Samrat Choudhary assumed office as Chief Minister.
The Bihar government and the MLA’s response to the allegations was not immediately available.
