Bengaluru, Feb 8 : A government nurse in Karnataka has been suspended after allegedly using Fevikwik, an instant adhesive, instead of medical stitches to treat a facial wound on a seven-year-old boy. The incident took place on January 14 at a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Adoor village, Haveri district.

The boy’s parents took to social media after his condition worsened, accusing staff nurse Jyothi of negligence. In response, the Health and Family Welfare Department suspended her for dereliction of duty. “Fevikwik is an adhesive solution not permitted for medical use under regulations. In this case, the staff nurse responsible for dereliction of duty by using Fevikwik for the child’s treatment has been suspended following a preliminary report and pending further investigation as per rules,” the Commissioner’s Office of the Health Department said in a statement.

Defending her actions, Jyothi claimed she used the adhesive to avoid scarring, saying, “If stitches are used, the marks would remain on cheeks.” However, officials have clarified that the use of Fevikwik is not authorized for medical purposes and have directed monitoring for any adverse effects on the child.

The child had injured his cheek while playing and was rushed to the PHC by his parents. Health authorities have since reported that the boy’s condition is stable.
