Raipur, September 10: Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will visit Chhattisgarh on Friday and participate in a series of programmes focusing on rural housing, Panchayat development and women’s economic empowerment.
Chouhan will visit Jetha in Sakti district, where he is scheduled to attend a housewarming programme organised under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). He will hand over keys to beneficiaries of newly constructed houses and address the gathering.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, state ministers and Panchayat representatives are expected to attend the programmes.According to the Rural Development Ministry, more than 20.53 lakh houses have been completed in Chhattisgarh under PMAY-G since 2014-15.
The state had been allocated a target of 25,13,351 houses, of which 24,53,466 have been sanctioned so far. The Centre has spent about Rs 16,853.73 crore on the housing programme, while the combined expenditure of the Centre and state government stands at around Rs 25,504.76 crore.
The government has set a further target of constructing 3,65,179 houses in Chhattisgarh during the financial year 2026-27. The houses will be provided to eligible families identified through the Awaas+ 2024 survey, with an estimated expenditure of around Rs 4,382.15 crore.During his visit, Chouhan will also take part in a conference of Panchayat representatives, where issues concerning rural development and effective implementation of government schemes at the grassroots level will be discussed.
The Union minister is also scheduled to attend a Lakhpati Didi conference and interact with women beneficiaries and members of Self-Help Groups.
The programme will focus on women’s economic participation and strengthening livelihood opportunities in rural areas.The visit is expected to provide a platform for discussions on accelerating rural development, improving delivery of welfare schemes and expanding housing and livelihood opportunities for rural communities in the state.
