New Delhi, September 11: India’s Vice-President-elect C.P. Radhakrishnan on Tuesday described his election victory as a triumph of “nationalistic ideology” and pledged to work towards making the country a developed nation by 2047.

Radhakrishnan, a veteran leader backed by the ruling alliance, secured 452 votes against 300 polled by opposition nominee B. Sudershan Reddy.

“The other side camp said that this election is an ideological fight, but from the voting pattern, we understand that the nationalistic ideology has emerged victorious,” Radhakrishnan told reporters in his first remarks after the win.

He called his victory a success for “every Indian” and urged political parties to shift their focus from partisan disputes to development goals. “If we have to develop Viksit Bharat by 2047, we should not do politics in everything, now we will have to concentrate on development,” he said.

Radhakrishnan also underlined the importance of both the ruling party and the opposition in a democracy, likening them to “two sides of the same coin.”

“Every post is important, and every post has its own limitations. We have to understand that we have to work within that framework,” he said, adding that he would do his best in his new capacity to contribute to national progress.
