New Delhi, July 23: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Centre over the handling of student protests linked to the alleged examination paper leak controversy.
She also accused sections of the media of failing to ask the government tough questions on the issue.
Speaking to reporters in the Parliament complex after the day’s proceedings were adjourned, Priyanka Gandhi said the focus should be on addressing students’ concerns rather than repeatedly questioning the opposition about disruptions in Parliament.
She questioned whether journalists had sought answers from Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan regarding accountability over the alleged paper leak issue.
According to her, the media should also question the government’s response to the ongoing protests.
The Congress leader alleged that students protesting in different parts of the country had faced police action, including the use of force.
She also expressed concern over reports of internet restrictions in some areas and claimed such measures affected communication between students and their families.
Priyanka Gandhi further criticised the government’s handling of the situation, saying the concerns of young people should be addressed through dialogue.
She argued that the administration must ensure transparency and accountability in matters related to competitive examinations.
Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she said the government should accept responsibility for issues affecting students if it also takes credit for the country’s achievements in other fields.
She maintained that the aspirations and future of young people deserved greater attention.
The ruling government has defended its actions on the issue, while the examination paper leak controversy continues to remain a subject of political debate, with both the government and the opposition trading allegations over accountability and the handling of student protests.
