Patna, July 14: Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor filed his nomination papers on Monday for the Bankipur Assembly by-election after leading a march through central Patna, where he said the contest represented “the nomination of a better future for Bihar.”
The procession began at the Scout and Guide Ground and passed through Kotwali Police Station, Dak Bungalow, S.P. Verma Road, JP Golambar and Gandhi Maidan before reaching the Collectorate, where Kishor submitted his nomination papers.
Jan Suraaj workers, supporters and local residents joined the march, raising slogans of “Ladenge Bankipur, Jeetenge Bankipur” (“We will fight for Bankipur, we will win Bankipur”).

Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination, Kishor said the election was about more than winning a legislative seat.
This is not my nomination. It is the nomination of Bihar’s changing image. It is the nomination of a better future for Bihar. It marks the beginning of a call for criminals in Bihar to vacate positions of power, he said.
Kishor said Bankipur did not belong to any political party or leader but to its people, who should decide the constituency’s future through the by-election.
The people must decide whose stronghold it will be. This by-election is not merely about electing an MLA; it is about changing Bihar’s leadership. It is an election to rein in the BJP’s arrogance in Bihar. It is an election to make elected representatives accountable, he said.
