Ara, July 30: Police have arrested a 35-year-old woman from Patna district for allegedly posing as a distant relative, gaining entry into a family’s home in Bhojpur and stealing cash and jewellery after reportedly drugging the occupants.
The accused, identified as Seema Kumari, allegedly visited a house in Lasadhi village under the Garhani police station area and introduced herself as a relative of the family.
Police said she convinced the family to allow her to stay overnight.
The alleged theft took place during the night of July 16–17. According to investigators, the woman allegedly mixed sleeping pills into tea and drinking water served to the family members.
The occupants reportedly became unconscious, and the valuables were found missing the following morning.
Police said gold and silver jewellery valued at around ₹8 lakh, including nearly two kilograms of silver ornaments, along with approximately ₹6 lakh in cash, were allegedly stolen from the house.
The accused was arrested from Patna district on Thursday. Police said they recovered the stolen jewellery and around ₹2.5 lakh in cash from her possession.
Garhani police station SHO Kamaljeet said the accused had also been named in another theft case registered at Piro police station in Bhojpur district.
Police have not yet found evidence linking the woman to an organised burglary gang. However, investigators are examining whether she may be connected to other theft cases in the district.
Further investigation is underway.
