Ranchi, July 15: A police station driver was seriously injured after an SUV allegedly rammed into him while attempting to evade a routine vehicle inspection in Ranchi’s Morabadi area, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. during a vehicle-checking drive being conducted by personnel from Lalpur Police Station near Morabadi Ground.
According to police, officers signalled an SUV to stop after noticing irregularities with its front number plate.
Instead of complying, the driver allegedly accelerated the vehicle and struck the police station driver, identified as Ranjesh Yadav, before fleeing the scene.
The impact left Yadav with multiple injuries.Police personnel and local residents rushed the injured driver to a nearby hospital, where he received first aid.
After initial treatment, he was discharged and advised to continue recovery at home.
Following the incident, Lalpur Police launched a search operation to trace the SUV and its driver.
Senior police officials said CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being examined to identify the vehicle and establish the route taken by the accused after the collision.
Investigators are also looking into local reports of reckless driving and other public safety concerns around Morabadi Ground, where residents have previously raised complaints about traffic violations and nuisance activities.
Police said efforts are underway to identify and arrest the SUV driver. Further investigation into the incident is in progress.
