New Delhi, Sep 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged more than 51,000 newly recruited government employees to work towards building a developed India by 2047 and ensure that their decisions help create greater opportunities for the country’s youth.
Addressing the 20th Rozgar Mela through video conferencing, Modi congratulated the new recruits and their families, saying their appointment marked the beginning of a new phase of responsibility and public service.The Prime Minister said young officials joining government service have an important role in strengthening the country’s development and self-reliance initiatives.
He called upon them to understand the aspirations of young people and remove hurdles that could prevent them from pursuing education, employment, entrepreneurship and innovation.Referring to India’s expanding engagement with the global economy, Modi highlighted initiatives under BRICS cooperation and said efforts were being made to involve entrepreneurs, farmers, women and young people in international partnerships.
He also referred to India’s free trade agreements with several countries, saying such arrangements were creating avenues for new markets, partnerships and career opportunities.The Prime Minister said the government has been focusing on preparing young people for changing economic requirements through initiatives such as the National Education Policy, Skill India Mission, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana and apprenticeship programmes.
He also highlighted the PM-SETU initiative, under which 1,000 government industrial training institutes are being modernised with an investment of Rs 60,000 crore and greater industry participation.
Modi said India’s startup ecosystem has expanded beyond major metropolitan centres, with nearly half of recognised startups located in tier-II and tier-III cities. He said young people from smaller towns and cities were increasingly contributing to the country’s emerging economy and creating employment opportunities for others.
On employment generation, the Prime Minister referred to the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, saying the scheme has an estimated outlay of around Rs 1 lakh crore and is aimed at helping around two crore young people enter the workforce for the first time.
He said incentives are also being provided to first-time employees and employers generating additional jobs.Modi linked employment opportunities with economic growth, investment and industrial expansion.
He said India’s economy recorded a 7.8 per cent growth rate in the first quarter of the current financial year and investment had increased by around 12 per cent.He called for continued reforms in areas including taxation, compliance, ease of doing business, education, skill development and emerging sectors.
Government employees, he said, would have an important role in ensuring that the reform process continues.The Prime Minister also emphasised the importance of improving the delivery of public services.
He asked the new recruits to ensure that citizens do not face the difficulties that they or their families may have encountered while accessing government services.
Highlighting the importance of continuous learning, Modi said government employees must keep upgrading their skills and understand new technologies and systems. He pointed to the Mission Karmayogi initiative and said more than 1.7 crore government employees are now associated with the iGOT Karmayogi platform.
He said the experience of citizens with the government often depends on the behaviour, sensitivity, efficiency and integrity of individual officials.Modi told the recruits that public service should be guided by the principle of “Nagrik Devo Bhava”, or placing citizens at the centre of governance, and said effective government service ultimately means making people’s lives easier.
The 20th Rozgar Mela saw appointment letters being distributed to more than 51,000 candidates selected for various government posts across the country.
