New Delhi, Aug. 7 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 57th convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi on Saturday, where more than 3,000 students, including undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral scholars, will receive their degrees.
IIT Delhi Director Rangan Banerjee said on Friday that 587 PhD scholars are among the graduating students who will participate in the convocation.
Modi will also present some of the institute’s highest academic honours to meritorious students. These include the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal and Perfect Ten Gold Medals.
AI-powered supercomputing facility
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister will remotely inaugurate Param Pragya, an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility established at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus.
The facility is expected to enhance the institute’s capabilities in artificial intelligence, data science, advanced computing and interdisciplinary research, providing researchers with access to high-performance computing infrastructure for emerging technology applications.
Banerjee said the facility would further strengthen IIT Delhi’s efforts to expand research in areas that are increasingly important to India’s technology and innovation ecosystem.
Collaboration with 18 NITs
The IIT Delhi director also highlighted the institute’s efforts to deepen academic and research collaboration with other premier institutions in the country.
IIT Delhi has signed Memoranda of Understanding with 18 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) as part of a national academic and research collaboration network.
Under the initiative, students and faculty members of participating institutions will have opportunities for academic exchanges, joint research projects, shared access to research infrastructure and faculty development programmes.
The collaboration is aimed at creating greater academic mobility and encouraging institutions to work together on research and innovation.
International partnerships
Banerjee said IIT Delhi also has 88 active international MoUs with institutions across 30 countries, providing a framework for academic and research cooperation with universities and institutions overseas.
These partnerships cover areas such as joint research, academic exchanges and institutional collaboration.
The developments come as IIT Delhi seeks to expand its research and academic footprint while strengthening collaboration with institutions in India and abroad.
