New Delhi, Jan 22 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 on February 5, according to sources. The grand religious event, which began on January 13, is set to continue until February 26 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, and has already witnessed massive participation despite challenging weather conditions.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to attend the mela on January 27, where he will “take a holy dip at the Sangam, perform Ganga Puja, and hold meetings with officials,” sources said. Security agencies have increased vigilance ahead of his visit, with special surveillance at key intersections and event venues.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will also participate in the celebrations, taking a holy dip at the Sangam on February 1. Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu is expected to visit Prayagraj on February 10 to participate in significant events. “Administrative and security preparations are being strengthened to ensure smooth and secure visits for these leaders,” sources added.

Devotees have been gathering at the Maha Kumbh Mela in large numbers, undeterred by dense fog and inclement weather. As of January 20, over 88.1 million pilgrims have taken a sacred dip at the Triveni Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers. On January 20 alone, more than 1.597 million devotees visited the site, according to Uttar Pradesh government data.

The event will feature four key upcoming bathing dates, including January 29 (Mauni Amavasya – Second Shahi Snan), February 3 (Basant Panchami – Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).

The Mahakumbh Mela, regarded as one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, continues to draw millions of pilgrims annually, reaffirming its cultural and spiritual significance.
