New Delhi, July 31 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed profound grief over the loss of lives caused by the building collapse in Maharashtra’s Thane district and announced financial assistance for the victims through the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
In an official statement, the Prime Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragic incident and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), in a post on X, said Modi was deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the building collapse and expressed solidarity with the affected families during this difficult time.
“As a mark of support, an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased victim, while the injured will receive ₹50,000 each,” the PMO said.
The Prime Minister said the Centre stands with the affected families and assured that all possible assistance would be extended to those impacted by the tragedy.
The announcement came as rescue and relief efforts continued at the collapse site, where authorities are working to assist those affected by the incident.
The PMNRF assistance is intended to provide immediate financial relief to the bereaved families and injured persons as rescue agencies and local authorities continue operations and assess the full extent of the damage.
The building collapse has once again highlighted concerns over structural safety and the need for strict enforcement of building regulations in urban areas. Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the collapse, while relief and rehabilitation measures remain underway.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated his prayers for the injured and expressed hope that they recover at the earliest, while extending his sympathies to all those affected by the tragedy.
