Patna, Aug 13: A doctor from Patna has alleged that he was subjected to prolonged blackmail and paid nearly Rs 2 crore over two years after being threatened with implication in a rape case, according to a complaint filed by his wife.A case was registered at the Rajeev Nagar police station on August 8 based on the woman’s complaint. She named a woman from Muzaffarpur, her husband and another person, alleging that they repeatedly demanded money from the doctor and threatened him and his family.
According to the complaint, the doctor came in contact with the woman and her husband in 2024 and subsequently remained in communication with them through WhatsApp.The woman initially allegedly sought Rs 20,000, citing expenses related to her mother’s medical treatment. The complaint states that further payments were subsequently made on different grounds.The doctor allegedly paid another Rs 10 lakh after being told that the woman intended to establish a coaching centre in Muzaffarpur.
The complaint alleges that when the doctor later refused to make further payments, he was threatened with being implicated in a rape case. The woman allegedly warned that the accusation could result in imprisonment and damage to his employment and reputation. The family has also alleged that the doctor received threats to his life.The complaint further claims that the woman referred to a photograph that she allegedly possessed and could use against the doctor.According to the complaint, the doctor was called to Muzaffarpur in November 2025, where he was allegedly pressured to sign a declaration concerning money already paid.
A declaration prepared at the Muzaffarpur court premises on December 18, 2025, reportedly recorded payments of Rs 1,32,64,960 up to that date.The alleged demands, however, reportedly continued. The doctor’s wife claimed that he subsequently arranged money through loans, his provident fund and financial assistance from relatives and friends, and paid approximately Rs 58 lakh more.
On July 5, 2026, the woman allegedly sent a WhatsApp message demanding another Rs 10 lakh, describing it as the final payment. The family allegedly attempted to arrange the amount, but the demands reportedly continued.The doctor’s wife then approached the Rajeev Nagar police, alleging continued blackmail and threats.
Police are examining the allegations and the roles of the three people named in the complaint. Investigators are expected to verify financial transactions, digital communications and other documents cited by the complainant.The complaint also alleges that the accused were part of a group that targeted individuals by threatening to involve them in criminal cases.
This allegation is yet to be established through investigation. The case remains under investigation, and the allegations made in the complaint have not been proven in court.
