Ranchi, April 24: The Jharkhand Janadhikar Mahasabha has strongly condemned the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and has demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The group cited what it called a grave failure of intelligence and security apparatus, despite the region being under heavy military surveillance.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, involved terrorists opening indiscriminate fire on tourists in the hill town of Pahalgam. The incident has triggered nationwide shock and condemnation, with civil society groups expressing outrage over what they perceive as a continuing state of insecurity in the Union Territory.

In a press release issued on Tuesday evening, the Mahasabha stated, “Since Jammu and Kashmir’s security is completely under the Centre, the Home Minister and National Security Advisor should take moral responsibility and resign.” The group also criticized the central government for focusing on suppressing dissent rather than ensuring public safety and restoring normalcy in the region.

The Mahasabha pointed to the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 as a turning point that, in their view, has only deepened the climate of fear among Kashmiris. They accused the government of eroding civil rights and constitutional autonomy, leading to an unstable and insecure environment for both locals and visitors.

The organization also raised concerns over communal narratives emerging in the media and from right-wing groups in the wake of the attack. It warned that unverified claims—such as those suggesting that the attackers asked for victims’ religious identities—could exacerbate communal tensions and distract from the core issue of public safety.

“While some claim that attackers asked for religious identity, there is no confirmed information. Efforts by local Kashmiris to save tourists were ignored,” the Mahasabha said. They emphasized the importance of balanced reporting and responsible communication in such a volatile time.

Finally, the group appealed to the public to remain united and reject divisive rhetoric. “We appeal to all citizens to reject divisive narratives and respond to this tragedy with unity,” the statement concluded.

No militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack thus far. Security forces have intensified search operations in the area, with additional personnel deployed to ensure safety and prevent further incidents.
