New Delhi, August 30: The fourth edition of the Tri-Services Future Warfare Course concluded at the Manekshaw Centre here on Sunday after four weeks of professional military education and strategic discussions focused on the changing character of warfare.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) and coordinated by the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS).
Officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force participated in the course along with representatives from government organisations, academia, the defence industry and strategic affairs institutions.
The programme was designed to examine emerging developments that could influence future military operations and national security.Key areas covered during the course included geopolitical developments, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, cyber and cognitive warfare, information operations, autonomous systems and future operations across land, maritime, air and space domains.
Participants also examined grey-zone activities, multi-domain operations and technology-driven warfare. The programme combined expert lectures and interactive discussions with scenario-building exercises, cognitive warfare simulations, field visits and participant-led presentations.
The participants held discussions with senior military officers, policymakers, scientists, industry leaders and specialists to gain perspectives on the technological and strategic challenges likely to shape future conflicts.Chief of Defence Staff General N.S. Raja Subramani also interacted with the participants and sought their views on the programme.
He invited suggestions for additional subjects and emerging areas that could be incorporated into future editions.
Discussions during the course also explored innovative approaches to strengthening the operational and functional capabilities of the three services through greater integration and jointness.
At the concluding ceremony, Air Marshal Tejinder Singh, Chief of the Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee, presented certificates to the participants.The participants were also awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Future Warfare by Lieutenant General S.S. Mahal (Retd.), Managing Director of the Defence Research and Innovation Foundation, IIT Ropar.
The fourth edition underlined the growing importance of joint learning, technological awareness, strategic foresight and operational preparedness in responding to the evolving nature of warfare.The fifth edition of the course is scheduled to take place from November 16 to December 11, 2026.
