Kohima, Mar 7: A court in Kohima, Nagaland has sentenced a 49 year old man to life imprisonment for murdering his younger brother in a shooting incident that took place in 2023.

The Court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge, presided over by Mezivolu T Therieh, on Friday convicted Lezo Seletsu under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for the murder of his 33-year-old brother.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on August 20, 2023, following an argument between the two siblings. Evidence presented in court showed that the victim had already begun walking away when Seletsu went to his house, retrieved a firearm and shot him from behind, causing fatal injuries.

After the incident, the accused fled the scene but was later arrested by investigators. The weapon used in the crime was also recovered during the probe based on information provided by the accused.

While pronouncing the judgment, the court observed that the offence was grave and there were no significant mitigating circumstances in the case. The court subsequently sentenced Seletsu to rigorous life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000.
