New Delhi, July 27: Congress MP M.K. Raghavan has called for a judicial inquiry into the police action against students who participated in recent protests at Jantar Mantar in the national capital, alleging that the crackdown violated their constitutional rights.

Raising the matter in the Lok Sabha under Rule 377, which allows Members of Parliament to bring issues of public importance to the House’s attention, Raghavan sought an independent investigation into the incident and demanded disciplinary action against police personnel found responsible for any misconduct.

The MP alleged that the use of force and detention of student protesters amounted to a violation of fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution.

He maintained that the students were participating in a democratic protest to voice concerns over issues such as alleged examination paper leaks, unemployment and administrative policies.

Raghavan described the protesting students as the “architects of India’s future” and said their grievances deserved a fair hearing through democratic processes.

He urged the authorities to ensure accountability and protect the right to peaceful protest while maintaining public order. The demand for a judicial probe comes amid continuing debate over the handling of the student demonstrations in Delhi.

No official announcement has been made regarding the constitution of an inquiry at this stage.
