Imphal, Dec 30: Manipur Police have arrested three active cadres of the proscribed militant outfit People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) in separate operations carried out in Imphal West and Thoubal districts, officials said on Monday.

In Imphal West district, a husband-and-wife duo associated with PREPAK’s G-5 faction were arrested on December 29 from an area under the Lamphel police station.

The arrested persons were identified as Konthoujam Chaoba Meitei alias Punshiba (46), a resident of Sagolband Tera Khuraijam Leikai, and his wife Kongthoujam (O) Sharmila Leima alias Nanao (43).

A mobile phone was seized from the possession of Chaoba Meitei during the arrest.

In a separate operation conducted a day earlier, police apprehended an active cadre of PREPAK (PRO) faction along National Highway-102 near the District Hospital gate under Thoubal police station limits.

The arrested individual was identified as Chandam Chandramani Singh alias Ghambir or Tamyanganba (49), a resident of Lairenkabi Maning Leikai in Imphal West district. A mobile phone along with a SIM card was recovered from him.

Officials said the arrests are part of intensified security measures to curb extortion and militant activities in the state. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of their involvement in unlawful activities.
