New Delhi/Islamabad, May 7 — India launched precision airstrikes against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) early on Wednesday in response to a deadly militant attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, including one Nepali national. The operation, codenamed Operation Sindoor, targeted nine locations linked to terrorist infrastructure used to plan attacks against India, the Indian government said.
Indian leaders, both from the ruling party and opposition, praised the strikes and hailed the armed forces. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh posted “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” on X (formerly Twitter), while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath added, “Jai Hind, Jai Hind Ki Sena.” Union Minister Piyush Goyal also praised the operation.
Opposition figures including Tejashwi Yadav and Aditya Thackeray expressed support for the military action. “Terrorism in all its forms must be eliminated,” Thackeray wrote. “Hit them hard enough that terrorism doesn’t stand a chance ever again.”
The United Nations has called for de-escalation and restraint, while Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the Pahalgam attack and urged both nations to avoid military confrontation.
