Dhanbad, Nov 21: In a bid to strengthen road safety, control crimes and prevent road accidents, Dhanbad Police conducted a large-scale special drive against drunk driving on Friday evening.
The campaign was led by Traffic DSP Arvind Singh, who deployed multiple teams at major intersections and main roads. Surprise checkpoints were set up from city areas to national highways, where vehicles were stopped and thoroughly checked.
During the drive, drivers were tested using breathalysers to detect alcohol consumption. Those found driving under the influence were immediately acted against, and several vehicles were seized and taken to police stations.
The drive was not limited to alcohol testing as cops also verified important vehicle documents such as registration certificates, driving licences, pollution certificates and insurance papers. Special attention was given to helmet and seat belt compliance, triple riding on bikes, black films on vehicle windows and the use of fancy number plates.
Police also checked the identity of people travelling in vehicles to prevent criminal and illegal activities. Some suspicious persons were questioned as a preventive measure.
The operation was carried out on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar and involved all police stations, outposts and traffic police teams across the district.
The SSP said that drunk driving is a major cause of road accidents and such strict drives will continue in the coming days. He appealed the public to avoid driving after consuming alcohol and to strictly follow traffic rules to ensure their own and the safety of others.
