Ranchi, Sep 3: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday directed officials to examine the feasibility of developing satellite townships in other urbanised districts of the state on the lines of the Smart City model, as he reviewed land-related issues concerning the Greater Ranchi Development Authority (GRDA) and Ranchi Smart City projects.
During a high-level meeting with senior officials at the Jharkhand Mantralaya, Soren called for a comprehensive action plan based on land availability, infrastructure, connectivity, civic amenities, employment opportunities and future population requirements.
The chief minister stressed that urbanisation should be citizen-centric and focused on long-term sustainability rather than being limited to construction of buildings and roads.
“Urbanisation should not be limited merely to the construction of buildings and roads but should be developed in a citizen-centric manner keeping future requirements in mind,” Soren said.
He called for the development of modern, well-planned and sustainable urban centres that provide better basic amenities, a safe environment, smooth transportation and quality public services.
Soren also directed officials to prepare a detailed roadmap for the future expansion of Ranchi Smart City after assessing its existing infrastructure and available resources. He said growing population, economic activity and urban requirements made it necessary to plan for the city’s long-term and balanced development.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of future talks with Heavy Engineering Corporation Limited (HEC) on land and other issues related to planned development in the area. The chief minister directed officials to examine all relevant aspects and make necessary preparations.
Highlighting the economic potential of planned urban development, Soren said Smart City-type projects could open new avenues for investment, employment, trade and other economic activities.
“The state government’s objective is to create a modern, safe, inclusive and well-planned urban environment where citizens can lead a convenient life and have access to better facilities,” he said.
He directed officials to expedite land-related and other project processes through better coordination, conduct regular reviews and ensure that targets are completed within stipulated timelines.
Soren also emphasised that urban development plans must cater not only to present requirements but also to the needs of future generations.
“Every urban development plan must take into account not only present requirements but also the needs of future generations,” he said.
