Chatra district (Jharkhand), March 2: At least six passengers were injured after an inter-state private bus overturned following a tyre burst in Jharkhand’s Chatra district on Monday, police said.

The accident occurred near Murainawa in the Bashishtnagar police station area, around 15 km from the district headquarters, when the front tyre of the bus suddenly burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The bus, travelling from Raipur / Raigarh in Chhattisgarh to Gaya in Bihar, overturned on the roadside near a sharp turn in Murainwa valley along the Chatra–Dobhi road, officials said.

All six injured passengers were rescued with the help of local villagers and shifted to hospitals by police and emergency teams.

Officer-in-charge of Bashishtnagar police station Amit Kumar Singh said, “Six passengers were injured, including one seriously who has been referred to Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.”

The remaining five injured passengers are undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital, Chatra.

Doctor Dr Ashish Kumar of Sadar Hospital said, “The five other injured persons are undergoing treatment at the medical establishment.”

Traffic on the road was disrupted briefly following the accident before normal movement was restored. Police said preliminary findings suggest speeding may have contributed to the crash, though technical faults and possible driver negligence are also being examined.
