Ranchi, May 21: A school bus fell into a pond in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand on Wednesday afternoon, injuring 22 children.
The accident took place in Khutra village under Ichak police station area. At the time of the accident, the children were returning home from school. According to the police, the injured children have been admitted to the medical college. The condition of eight children is said to be critical.
Ichak police station in-charge Santosh Kumar Singh said that according to preliminary information, the bus driver lost control, due to which the vehicle fell into the pond. Local people took the children out of the pond and took them to the hospital. During this, some people also beat up the driver.
Locals said that many children drank dirty water from the pond, due to which their condition has become serious. All the injured have been admitted to the nearest hospital for treatment.
There was anger amongst parents of the students who accused the school management of negligence. The families alleged that old and dilapidated vehicles are being used by the school. The school management representative reached the spot late, due to which angry people protested.
Parents demanded action against the culprits and the administration has been appealed to check the school vehicles.
