Ramgarh, July 25: In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, Ramgarh Police arrested three alleged drug smugglers and seized 13.65 grams of brown sugar along with a motorcycle, four mobile phones, an electronic weighing scale, packing tape and other materials suspected to have been used for packaging and distribution of narcotics.
The accused have been identified as Ejaz Ansari alias Vicky, Ajmat Ansari and Rahul Kumar Bedia, all residents of Chikor village. A case has been registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Bhadaninagar Police Station, and they have been remanded to judicial custody.
According to police, preliminary investigation indicates that the seized materials were being used to prepare small packets of brown sugar for supply to different areas. Investigators are now focusing on the four mobile phones recovered during the operation to trace the wider drug network.
Police said call records, chats, contact lists and other digital evidence stored on the devices will be examined to identify the supply chain, buyers, associates and determine whether the accused were operating independently or as part of an organised drug trafficking racket.
The operation was carried out in the presence of the Patratu Sub-Divisional Magistrate in accordance with legal procedures.
Patratu SDPO Raghavendra Sharma said the district police would continue its drive against narcotics without any let-up.
“The campaign against drug trafficking in the district will continue with full vigor,” Sharma said.
The operation was executed with the participation of officials from Patratu, Bhadaninagar and Bhurkunda police units, including Patratu Circle Inspector Satyendra Kumar Singh, Bhadaninagar OP in-charge Mohammad Akhtar Ali, Patratu Police Station in-charge Shivlal Kumar Gupta, Bhurkunda OP in-charge Upendra Kumar and other police personnel.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the alleged network and identify other persons involved in the illegal drug trade.
