Ranchi, May 16: In a tragic incident in Jharkhand, a CRPF officer died due to lightning during an anti-Naxal operation in rebel-hit West Singhbhum district on Thursday evening.
Another officer and two policemen were also injured in this incident. The deceased officer was second in command in the 26th battalion. Officials said that it was raining heavily in the forest area on Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, at around 5:30pm, a lightning strike occurred in Kiriburu village of West Singhbhum district in which CRPF’s 26th Battalion’s second-in-command officer, 46-year-old M. Prabo Singh, died after being struck by lightning.
while 49-year-old assistant commandant Subir Kumar Mandal was injured. He has been admitted to Tata Main Hospital in Noamundi.
Two Jharkhand police personnel were also injured in this incident. According to officials, all the personnel were present at the CRPF security post when the lightning struck.
They said that it took time to evacuate them as rain hindered the quick rescue operation.
The deceased CRPF official Prabo Singh was a resident of West Imphal district of Manipur, while Mandal is a resident of North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
