Ranchi, May 10: Jharkhand police have tightened security and launched comprehensive surveillance operations amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, officials said on Friday.
A detailed internal report submitted by Inspector General (IG) of Special Branch, Prabhat Kumar, to Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta warned that terror attacks similar to the Pahalgam incident in Jammu and Kashmir could not be ruled out.
The report outlines six key areas requiring immediate attention and coordination at the district level, including stepped-up checks at public venues such as bus stands, railway stations, tourist spots and other sensitive locations.
“We are on high alert and have instructed all district SPs to intensify monitoring and preventive action across multiple fronts,” a senior police official familiar with the report said.
The report also calls for identification and surveillance of individuals linked to banned terrorist groups, and a crackdown on undocumented migrants, including gathering names, addresses and tracking their movements. Tenant verification has been made mandatory across districts, with local police tasked with compiling data on all rented accommodations.
Authorities have also ordered the creation of detailed inventories of public places and hotels, along with regular inspections and background checks. Surveillance has been extended to monitor known criminal gangs operating in the state.
Meanwhile, cyber patrolling has been activated, with Jharkhand police monitoring social media platforms for signs of suspicious activity or hate speech.
