Ranchi, May 7: The Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday upheld its stay on the publication of results for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), as an investigation into alleged irregularities continues.
A division bench led by Chief Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao heard a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into suspected malpractice during the 2024 examination. The next hearing is scheduled for June 18.
Appearing on behalf of the state, Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan told the court that the Crime Investigation Department (CID) is investigating the case, and so far, no concrete evidence of a paper leak has been found. He added that a chargesheet has been filed against three individuals accused of collecting money from candidates under the pretext of providing the examination paper.
The court has directed the state government to submit an updated investigation report in the next hearing.
The examination, held on September 21-22, 2024, at 823 centres across Jharkhand, saw participation from over 304,000 candidates. JSSC had released a list of 2,145 shortlisted candidates on December 5, 2024. However, on December 17, 2024, the High Court ordered a stay on the result publication after a PIL was filed by Rajesh Kumar and others, citing allegations of a paper leak.
Following the court’s direction, the state government registered a case under the Examination Conducting Act, 2023, and launched an investigation, which is currently underway.
