Ranchi, Aug. 5: The Jharkhand government has granted administrative approval for the construction of a ₹284.17-crore Medico City in Ranchi, taking a significant step towards developing the state as a major destination for advanced healthcare and medical tourism.
The proposal has been forwarded for Cabinet approval, which is expected at the next Cabinet meeting. Officials said construction work will commence immediately after the Cabinet gives its nod.
Health Minister Irfan Ansari said the Medico City project would transform the state’s healthcare landscape by bringing multiple super-specialty medical facilities under one roof.
“Work on the Medico City project will begin as soon as Cabinet approval is received,” Ansari said.
He added that the project would be a landmark initiative for the state.
“This project will prove to be a milestone in establishing Jharkhand as a major medical tourism hub in the country,” the minister said.
The Health Department is currently holding discussions with several leading healthcare providers, many of whom have expressed interest in investing in Jharkhand by establishing super-specialty hospitals within the proposed Medico City.
Among the hospital groups invited to participate are Apollo Hospitals, Fortis Healthcare, Max Healthcare, Medanta – The Medicity, Narayana Health, Manipal Hospitals, Yashoda Hospitals, KIMS Hospitals, Global Hospitals and Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
According to the minister, the government plans to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with these hospital groups in the near future.
“MoUs will soon be signed with leading hospital groups so that all major super-specialty healthcare services are available at one place in Jharkhand,” Ansari said.
The proposed Medico City is expected to provide a wide range of advanced medical services, including cardiology, oncology, neurosciences, kidney and liver transplants, orthopedics, women and child healthcare, and ophthalmology.
Officials said the integrated healthcare complex is expected to strengthen tertiary medical care in the state, reduce dependence on out-of-state treatment and position Ranchi as a key centre for specialised healthcare in eastern India.
