Ranchi, September 4: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has directed officials to examine the feasibility of developing satellite townships in urbanised districts of the state as part of efforts to promote planned and future-oriented urban growth.
During a high-level meeting on Thursday, Soren reviewed various land-related matters associated with the Greater Ranchi Development Authority and the Ranchi Smart City project.The Chief Minister asked officials to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the possibility of developing satellite townships on the lines of the Smart City initiative.
He directed them to prepare a detailed action plan after considering land availability, infrastructure, connectivity, civic amenities, employment prospects and projected population growth.Soren said urbanisation should not be restricted to the construction of buildings and roads.
Development plans, he said, should focus on creating urban spaces that meet the present as well as future needs of residents.According to the statement, the state government aims to develop urban areas that are modern, safe, inclusive and properly organised, while improving the quality of civic amenities and the overall ease of living.
The Chief Minister said planned urban projects could also contribute to economic growth by creating opportunities for investment, employment, trade and other commercial activities.He instructed officials working on the Ranchi Smart City project to accelerate key processes, particularly those related to land, through improved coordination between departments and regular monitoring.
Soren further emphasised that urban development plans should take into account the requirements of future generations so that Jharkhand’s cities can develop with better infrastructure, civic services and a distinct urban identity.
The proposed satellite township initiative is aimed at supporting organised urban expansion while addressing the growing requirements of the state’s urban population.
