Ranchi, July 2: The Indian Railways has increased passenger fares on several long-distance express, mail, and premium trains operating from the Ranchi rail division, with the revised rates coming into effect from Tuesday, officials said.
Passengers travelling on routes exceeding 500 kilometres will now pay between ₹26 and ₹41 more per ticket, depending on the train and class of travel. Fares for shorter routes, such as Ranchi to Kolkata and Ranchi to Patna, remain unchanged.
The fare revision affects several high-traffic trains, including the Garib Rath Express, Rajdhani Express, Sampark Kranti Express, Sambalpur–Jammu Tawi Express, LTT Express, Ranchi–Banaras Express, and Ranchi–Gorakhpur Express.
For instance, Garib Rath Express fares for AC 3-tier have risen from ₹1,075 to ₹1,102, while Rajdhani Express now charges ₹2,420 for AC 3-tier (up from ₹2,395), ₹3,430 for AC 2-tier (up from ₹3,405), and ₹4,205 for First AC (previously ₹4,180).
Sampark Kranti Express fares have also increased, with sleeper class rising to ₹601–₹602 (from ₹595), AC 3E to ₹1,486 (from ₹1,460), AC 3-tier to ₹1,586 (from ₹1,560), and AC 2-tier to ₹2,251 (from ₹2,225).
In the case of the Sambalpur–Jammu Tawi Express, sleeper fares now stand at ₹790 (up from ₹780), AC 3-tier at ₹2,081 (from ₹2,040), and AC 2-tier at ₹3,011 (from ₹2,970).
LTT Express and Ranchi–LTT Express saw sleeper class fares increase from ₹710 to ₹720, AC 3 economy from ₹1,755 to ₹1,790, AC 3-tier from ₹1,860 to ₹1,895, and First AC from ₹4,550 to ₹4,590.
Meanwhile, Ranchi–Banaras Express fares were adjusted to ₹338 for sleeper (from ₹335) and ₹922 for AC 3-tier (up from ₹910). For Ranchi–Gorakhpur Express, sleeper fares rose from ₹320 to ₹323, AC 3-tier from ₹870 to ₹881, AC 2-tier from ₹1,230 to ₹1,241, and First AC from ₹2,050 to ₹2,061.
The railways did not issue an official statement on the rationale behind the fare hike but indicated that the revision applies only to long-distance routes as part of periodic fare rationalisation.
