Calgary/New Delhi, June 21: An Indian student from Delhi studying at the University of Calgary has died under unclear circumstances, the Consulate General of India in Vancouver said on Thursday. The student, identified as Tanya Tyagi, was pursuing her education in Canada when she passed away suddenly. The consulate said it is in touch with Canadian authorities and will provide full assistance to Tyagi’s family.
“We are saddened by the sudden demise of Ms. Tanya Tyagi, an Indian student at the University of Calgary. The Consulate is in touch with the authorities and will provide all required assistance to the bereaved family,” the consulate said in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter. “Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased.”
Officials have not released any further details about the cause or conditions of her death. The University of Calgary has yet to comment on the matter.
An unverified social media post that tagged the Prime Minister’s Office of India claimed that Tyagi died of a heart attack, though no official confirmation has been issued. The Indian consulate said it will continue to liaise with Canadian officials and provide updates as more information becomes available.
