Ahmedabad, Dec 18: As many as 19 schools across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Kalol were thrown into a state of high alert on Wednesday after receiving bomb threat emails, prompting authorities to rush police and emergency teams to multiple campuses and evacuate students as a precaution.

Prominent institutions such as Zebar School, Zydus School of Excellence, Maharaja Agrasen School and DAV International School were among those that received the threatening emails, which warned of bomb blasts scheduled at 1:11 pm, officials said.

Following the alerts, police, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), Special Operations Group (SOG), crime branch personnel, fire brigade teams and ambulances were deployed at the affected schools. The first threat alert was received around 10 am, after which immediate security checks were launched.

Several schools cancelled their afternoon shifts, while some institutions that did not receive direct threats also sent students home as a precautionary measure. Parents were formally informed and asked to collect their children without delay.

According to officials, the email messages allegedly contained the phrase “Ahmedabad blast school se Sabarmati jail tak” and also named Union Home Minister Amit Shah and gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Notably, some of the targeted schools are located in Shah’s Lok Sabha constituency.

Joint Police Commissioner (Crime Branch) Sharad Singhal said police teams were promptly dispatched to the concerned schools. “Three schools in Ahmedabad received bomb threats via email today. Police teams are at the respective schools,” he said.

Vejalpur police inspector Ranjit Chauhan said authorities were informed about the threat to Zydus School of Excellence around 10 am. “After receiving the information, a team was dispatched immediately,” he said.

Officials, however, sought to reassure the public, saying no suspicious objects or explosives had been found so far. “There is no need for any panic as safety protocols are being implemented across the city,” a police statement said, adding that BDDS teams were conducting thorough checks at all locations.

The threatening email reportedly read, “We will take revenge,” officials said.

The police, in coordination with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s fire department, have launched an investigation to trace the sender of the emails. Searches and security checks were continuing till the filing of this report, officials added
