New Delhi, August 31: The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE) is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission for a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening connections between children, parents and grandparents.
The initiative, titled “Creating Intergenerational Bonding,” will seek to promote stronger emotional and cultural relationships among different generations through activities linked to the school system.
The MoU is scheduled to be signed in the presence of Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar, Minister of State B.L. Verma, Ministry Secretary Sudhansh Pant and other senior officials, along with representatives of the Ramakrishna Mission.
As part of the initial rollout, a structured and measurable programme will be developed and implemented in 200 pilot schools across the country. The model is expected to include interactive co-learning games, a bilingual online resource platform and teacher certification.
The pilot programme will be evaluated on the basis of its implementation and outcomes. The experience gained from the project could be used to expand the initiative to schools in other parts of the country.
Officials said the programme is intended to create meaningful opportunities for senior citizens to share their experiences, knowledge and cultural values with younger generations. It is also expected to help parents connect traditional values with the realities of modern life, while providing children with stronger cultural awareness and emotional support.
The initiative is expected to complement existing government programmes for senior citizens, including the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) and the Elderline helpline.
The Ramakrishna Mission, which has a long history of work in education, healthcare, cultural activities and humanitarian services, will serve as the implementation partner.
A knowledge development partner will support the programme through research, design and evaluation.The proposed collaboration reflects the government’s broader emphasis on the welfare and inclusion of senior citizens and seeks to encourage greater interaction and understanding among generations.
The initiative also aligns with the vision of inclusive development, with the objective of ensuring that people of different age groups remain connected and progress together.
