Ranchi, Mar 25 : During the budget session of the Jharkhand Assembly, BJP MLA CP Singh accused the state government of allowing cow slaughter on government land and supplying banned meat to hotels.
He alleged that the previous Raghuvar Das-led BJP government had enforced a ban, but the current JMM-led coalition government failed to act due to vote bank politics.
BJP has consistently opposed cow slaughter and reiterated its stance in the Assembly, with CP Singh claiming that illegal activities were being carried out openly.
Jharkhand government minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu, responding to the allegations, demanded that the central government impose a nationwide ban on banned meat.
Sonu stated that if the former BJP-led state government had enforced a ban, then the central government should also implement a similar law across the country.
The BJP continues to target the Hemant Soren-led government over the alleged sale of banned meat in Jharkhand.
Currently, around 20 states in India have either fully or partially banned the sale of banned meat, while eight states, including Kerala, Goa, West Bengal, and several northeastern states, still allow it legally.
