Dinesh T. Waghmare appointed Maharashtra State Election Commissioner

Senior IAS officer Dinesh T. Waghmare has been appointed as the Maharashtra State Election Commissioner by the Governor of Maharashtra. His five-year, non-renewable term will commence on January 20, 2025, or from the date he assumes office.

Waghmare, an IAS officer of the 1994 batch, will oversee the preparation of electoral rolls and the conduct of elections for Zilla Parishads, Panchayat Samitees, Gram Panchayats, Municipal Corporations, and Municipal Councils across the state.

The appointment was made under Article 243-K and Article 243-ZA of the Indian Constitution and the Maharashtra State Election Commissioner (Qualifications and Appointment) Act, 1994.

Waghmare currently serves the Principal Secretary of the Medical Education and Drugs Department, with additional responsibility for the Employment Guarantee Scheme.

The order was issued by Manisha Patankar-Mhaiskar, Additional Chief Secretary and Chief Protocol Officer to the Maharashtra Government.
