New Delhi, August 16: The Delhi BJP on Sunday urged the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership to intervene in an alleged property dispute involving one of its Dalit workers and ensure that the complainant gets justice.Delhi BJP spokespersons Praveen Shankar Kapoor and Dr Anil Gupta alleged that an AAP national council member, identified as Shrichand Vohra, had been involved in a dispute over possession of a house belonging to AAP worker Rakesh Kumar.
The BJP leaders claimed that Kumar had allowed the premises to be used as a private political office in 2019 but later sought its return. According to the allegations, possession of the property was not handed back despite repeated requests.An FIR has been registered in connection with the matter, the BJP leaders said, adding that the complainant had alleged that he was denied possession of the premises.
The BJP further alleged that in July, Kumar sought installation of an electricity meter on the first floor of the house but was allegedly prevented from doing so.Following a police inquiry, provisions relating to an alleged conspiracy to take possession of the property were subsequently added to the case, according to the BJP.Kapoor claimed that the AAP functionary had been associated with party chief Arvind Kejriwal since the organisation’s early days and had contested the 2017 MCD election from Jaitpur.
His wife is currently a municipal councillor, he said.The BJP leaders appealed to AAP leaders, including Kejriwal and Saurabh Bhardwaj, to examine the allegations and take appropriate action.They also demanded that the accused AAP member and his wife be removed from the party if the allegations are established.
The BJP leaders said the issue was particularly significant as the complainant was a Dalit worker of the same political party and urged the AAP leadership to demonstrate its commitment to social justice.The allegations could not be independently verified. An FIR or police investigation does not by itself establish guilt, and the matter remains subject to investigation and due legal process.
