New Delhi, July 21: Several senior Congress leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were detained by the Delhi Police on Tuesday after leading a protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence over the alleged examination paper leak issue.
The Congress organised the demonstration to demand greater accountability from the Union government, alleging that repeated examination paper leaks had adversely affected students across the country.
During the protest, party leaders urged the Centre to take stronger measures to ensure transparency and fairness in the examination system.
Rahul Gandhi criticised the government’s handling of the issue and called for political accountability, demanding the resignations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

He said the concerns of students should be addressed without delay.
As protesters gathered near the high-security zone surrounding the Prime Minister’s residence, Delhi Police personnel intervened and removed demonstrators from the area, citing security arrangements and restrictions on public gatherings.
Several Congress workers and leaders were taken into custody during the operation.
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, who joined the protest in support of the Congress, was also detained.
He said the government should engage with students and respond to their concerns rather than ignoring them.
Following his detention, Rahul Gandhi accused the government of attempting to silence the Opposition and asserted that the party would continue to raise issues affecting students and young people.
The police action triggered sharp reactions from Opposition parties, which described the detentions as an attempt to curb democratic protest.
The ruling side, however, has maintained that security protocols around the Prime Minister’s residence must be strictly enforced.
The protest has added to the ongoing political debate over the alleged examination paper leak issue, with the Opposition demanding accountability and the government facing increasing pressure to reassure students about the integrity of the country’s examination system.
