New Delhi, July 24: The founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), Abhijeet Deepke, on Friday claimed that members of his team could be arrested, citing what he described as recent information received by the party.
There was no official confirmation from the Delhi Police regarding the claim.
Addressing supporters at the protest site, Deepke said the demonstration would continue until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.
He maintained that the agitation has remained peaceful and appealed to the authorities not to take any action that could escalate tensions.
Deepke urged supporters to remain calm and continue the protest through peaceful and lawful means if any members of the party are detained.
He emphasized that the movement follows the principles of non-violence and that anyone resorting to violence should not be considered part of the campaign.
The CJP founder also alleged that previous actions against protesters had strengthened public support for the movement.
However, these allegations have not been independently verified.The statement comes ahead of a scheduled meeting between representatives of the government and the protesting group.
Deepke reiterated that the party’s primary demand remains the resignation of the Union Education Minister, adding that no alternative proposal would be acceptable to the protesters.
Earlier, climate activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his hunger strike, a development that Deepke welcomed, saying it was important to safeguard his health while the movement continues.
The protest has been underway at Jantar Mantar for several weeks, with demonstrators pressing for their demands through what they describe as a peaceful campaign.
Officials have not issued any statement on the reported possibility of arrests.
