New Delhi, Sep 15: Several schools in the national capital received bomb threat emails on Tuesday, triggering precautionary evacuations and a major security response, officials said.The schools linked to the threats included The British School in Chanakyapuri, Army Public School in Dhaula Kuan and Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Lodhi Estate.
Air Force Bal Bharati School and Carmel Convent School were also among the institutions mentioned by officials.The threatening messages were received at around 10:17 am. According to officials, one of the emails carried a reference to an alleged explosion at Delhi schools at 1:11 pm.
The messages, reportedly written in Punjabi, contained threats against schools as well as police stations, police posts and court complexes in the city.
The sender also allegedly warned people against using Delhi Metro and trains until September 29 and claimed that explosions could take place at multiple locations.Following the alerts, students were evacuated from the affected premises as a precautionary measure.
Police teams, bomb disposal personnel and sniffer-dog squads were deployed to conduct thorough searches.
Security checks were carried out to determine whether any explosive material or suspicious objects had been placed on the premises.Officials later said the threats were found to be hoaxes.
Despite this, security agencies continued to treat the matter seriously given the nature of the messages and the presence of large numbers of students at the institutions.
Police are examining the threatening emails to establish their source and determine whether the messages were part of a coordinated attempt to create panic in the national capital.
