Ranchi, July 10: Air passengers travelling through Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi will now have access to round-the-clock medical assistance following the inauguration of a 24×7 medical clinic inside the airport terminal.
The facility was inaugurated on Thursday by Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth.The newly established clinic aims to provide immediate medical care to passengers who experience sudden illness, injuries, or other health emergencies while at the airport.
Equipped with trained medical professionals and essential emergency facilities, the clinic is expected to significantly improve passenger safety and emergency response.
The medical facility has been set up in collaboration with Bhagwan Mahavir Medica Hospital, Ranchi.
In addition to the clinic, a fully equipped ambulance will remain stationed at the airport around the clock to ensure that critically ill patients can be transported to a hospital without delay.
The service will also benefit airport employees, who will now have access to immediate medical assistance during emergencies.
Speaking at the inauguration, Sanjay Seth said the initiative has been launched with passenger convenience and safety as the top priority.
He noted that doctors, trained paramedical staff and a modern ambulance would remain available at all times, ensuring prompt treatment and swift transfer to hospitals whenever required.
Birsa Munda Airport, one of Jharkhand’s busiest airports, handles nearly 2.5 lakh passengers every month.
Officials said the availability of an on-site medical facility will strengthen the airport’s emergency preparedness and enhance the overall travel experience.
Highlighting the airport’s rapid growth, Seth said annual passenger traffic has increased from 6.5 lakh in 2014-15 to nearly 27 lakh over the past 12 years.
During this period, the airport has also upgraded its infrastructure with the installation of a new Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower and a DVOR navigation system, improving operational efficiency and aviation safety.
Among those present at the inauguration were former Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Maroo, Airport Director Vinod Kumar, Deputy General Manager (Operations) Manoj Prasad Singh, Deputy Commandant Amit Kumar, and other senior airport officials.
